About Me

My name is Sofia Flores and I am an Honors College student at Florida International University. I am graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience with a Minor in iology. After graduating from Florida International University, I plan to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology or in cognitive neuroscience.

I am interested in studying the pathology of violent behaviors and what evidence-based approaches can be taken to prevent them. After volunteering for a crisis hotline, I realized the prevalence of domestic violence in the city I live in, Miami. This led me to delve deeper into researching violence against women and how to provide resources for women experiencing it. This is a topic that I plan to explore during my time in India.

I am also interested in working with pediatric populations and assessing behavioral disorders (ADHD, OCD, ODD, etc.). I have gained previous clinical experience by working with children at the Center for Children and Families, where I administered clinical questionnaires and explained treatment plans to families.

I would like to continue expanding my clinical and research skills throughout the Global Health Study Abroad program. I am excited to work in a completely different culture and be able to see the differences between the healthcare systems in the United States and India. By diving out of my comfort zone and into a country miles away from my home, I hope to gain a new perspective on research.
