Exploring Mysore

When I arrived in India, there were many contrasts to my life back in the United States. The culture shock was immediate, but it slowly began to wear off with time and I grew an appreciation for the rich culture that India has to offer. During my stay in Mysore, I was able to get to know the city well and live like a local. I became familiar with different modes of transportation, like taking rickshaws anywhere in the city, and I even learned how to haggle with street vendors. I explored various foods (even the spicy ones) and found that I loved different dishes like paneer butter masala, gobi manchurian, garlic naan, and much more. I visited the main attractions in Mysore like the Mysore Palace and Karanji Lake, but then moved on to local spots like the markets and family businesses. My experience in India showed me that actually living and experiencing another country expanded my cultural humility. I have gained such a deep appreciation for the people of India and the way they share their love of their country with foreigners.
